Philadelphia 76ers On the Rise

Since 2017 the Sixers hold a record of 9-3 which is Top 5 in the NBA during that span after beating the Milwaukee Bucks.

Me, being a fan of the Sixers didn’t see it coming together as fast as it has.

The major reason for the improvement

Joel Embiid.

Embiid is a legitimate star on the court and doesn’t shy away from the big moment, rather it’s putting an opponent away in a close game or rallying his team.

Embiid was close to being selected as an Eastern Conference All-Star but was snubbed when the reserves were announced Thursday.

The Sixers will be represented still All-Star weekend as Embiid along with Dario Saric and Jahlil Okafor will be playing in the Rising Stars game Friday night of All-Star weekend.

The Sixers have accumulated young talent through their rebuild process and will be set to receive more, depending have June draft will fall. The Sixers hold their own first round pick along with a Top 3 protected LA Lakers pick & also have the ability to swap with the Sacramento Kings for their pick if it’s greater than the pick the Sixers own.

The Sixers recent improvement hasn’t come with sacrifices, Okafor last year 3rd overall pick has been regulated to the bench and received several DNPs in the Sixers recent stretch.

Okafor will be the likely frontcourt player traded due to his lack of playing and the emergence of Nerlens Noel and Embiid play together.

Nerlens Noel is offensively limited, but vs the Milwaukee Bucks a game Embiid missed, he made a 15 foot jumper and 2 clutch free throws that sealed the game.

If the Sixers do move Okafor, receiving a perimeter player who can shoot and stretch the floor will be key. The trade deadline is approaching and the league knows that Philadelphia has to move either Okafor or Noel so it’ll be interesting to see what type of deal will materialize in a few weeks.

With a likely roster shake up coming via trade the Sixers are also set to get first overall pick Ben Simmons back some time after the All-Star break.

Simmons play-making ability will make the Sixers more dangerous, but I imagine the Sixers will take a slight step back as they adjust to playing with Simmons early on.

The Sixers finally have hope though, after years of being the NBA laughingstock they’ve experienced winning.

The Sixers have moved themselves within playoff contention albeit still 4.5 games out of the 8th spot but within striking range.

Rather the Sixers will be able to keep their winnings way up will remain to be seen, but they’re on the right track.
