Bills vs Jaguars Recap

1st Quarter: The Jacksonville Jaguars received possession 1st and marched the ball down the field. The Bills defense missed a sure sack, which allowed QB Blake Bortles to scramble for 28 yards putting the Jaguars in scoring position. The Bills defense appeared to stop the Jaguars on the opening drive from scoring, however a defensive holding call gave the Jaguars new life and they scored the following play.

The Bills first possession was a 3 and Out. Sammy Watkins was on the field for the first time since Week 2 as he was activated from the Injured Reserve earlier in the week.

Bills Cornerback Ron Darby exited the game after taking a hit to the head for Running Back Chris Ivory.

The Bills caught a big break as WR Allen Hurns  dropped a pass that easily would’ve gained close to 30 yards. The Jaguars were forced to punt after the drop.

The Bills weren’t about to take advantage of the drop pass, as for the second straight possession the offense went 3 and out.

Marcell Dareus sacked Blake Bortles on a 3rd & 6 to close the 1st Quarter with the Jaguars leading.

Jaguars 7-0.

2nd Quarter: The Bills recorded their first, 1st down of the game 3 minutes into the 2nd Quarter. The first down benefited nothing as they were backed up to a 3rd & 22 and was forced to punt. Tyrod Taylor was sacked on the drive and LeSean McCoy has struggledand hasn’t  found any running room as his 5 carries resulted in negative yardage so far.

Sammy Watkins caught his first pass since Week 2.

The Bills continue to struggle offensively. The Bills are still scoreless as halftime approaches.

Ron Darby as also been ruled out for the remainder of the game.

Marcell Dareus got his 2nd sack of the day bringing up a 3rd down play for the Jaguars. Hopefully the sack can swing momentum in the Bills favor.

The following punt the Bills entered their best scoring position of the day as Brandon Tate returned the punt 43 yards placing the Bills at the 27 yard line just on the verge of the red zone.

Rex Ryan gambled on a 4th and Short and ran rookie Running Back Johnathan Williams for a gain of 6 to get the first down.

The following play Tyrod Taylor ran the option and pitched it to LeSean McCoy for the Bills first Touchdown of the game. Dan Carpenter did miss the extra point after the TD.

Jaguars 7-6

Halftime Assessment : The Bills offensive finally got in going as they scored before the half closed. The offensive line hasn’t given Tyrod any time as the pocket has collapsed on Tyrod several time, same goes for McCoy in the running game. The line must do a better job blocking for both the pass and run. Defensively the Bills have been able to pressure Blake Bortles, Marcell Dareus sacked Bortles twice and others have had opportunities as well. The secondary has held up nicely in the early going, that would need to continue as the Jaguars do have playmakers on the outside that can challenge the DBs especially with Darby out now.

The Bills will receive the 2nd half kickoff.

3rd Quarter:  LeSean McCoy takes the first play of the half straight to the house for a quick Tocuhdown for 75 yards taking just 13 seconds off the clock.

The Bills first lead of the game is short lived as the Jaguars find the Endzone on a pass play from Blake Bortles to Marquise Lee. On the scoring drive the Jaguars converted 2 third down situations.

Sammy Watkins presence is felt on the Bills drive, he and Tyrod Taylor connected on a 60 yard pass and putting the Bills in prime scoring position to retake the lead. The deep ball connection is definitely something the Bills have been lacking for the entire season.

Tyrod Taylor closes the deal on the drive on a 7 yard scramble putting the Bills back on top.

Bills 20-14

4th Quarter: The Jaguars responded quickly to the Bills score to retake the lead as Allen Hurns found the Endzone.

The Bills responded this time themselves to the Jaguars score. Justin Hunter who seems to only catch TD passes went way up to come down with a pass from Tyrod Taylor. Hunter used all his 6’4 frame to go up and complete the catch and maintained controlled of the ball as he hit the ground for the TD. The Bills were forced to go for the 2 point conversion following the TD to make the lead a full Touchdown, which they converted.

The Jaguars received the ball down one TD. Blake Bortles like he has all day has used his legs to his advantage, Bortles currently has 82 yards rushing. The Jaguars reached Bills territory only for the Bills defense to come up with a big stop on a Jaguars 4th down conversion attempt.

The Bills regained possession with 3 minutes remaining in regulation.

The Bills were able to pick up 2 first down to secure the victory vs the Jaguars.

Bills win 28-21.
