The Buffalo Bills snapped their 3 game losing streak, defeating the Cincinnati Bengals 16-12.
The Bills batted a Hail Mary attempt from Andy Dalton in the Endzone to secure the victory.
The Bills caught an early break in the game as Wide Receiver AJ Green was hurt on the 3rd play and ruled out for the reminder of the game. Green has the ability to change the course of the game, as he causes mismatch issues for any Cornerback that cover him.
Bills CB Stephon Gilmore benefited from AJ Green’s absence as he recorded 2 Interceptions, 1 which he nearly returned for a TD before being tackled out of bounds by Gio Bernard.
The game overall wasn’t a nice sight for the eyes. The Bills and Bengals both struggled offensively. Andy Dalton and Bengals struggled much of the 2nd half, Dalton went the entire 3rd Quarter without a completion. For the Bills Tyrod Taylor finished with no Touchdown passing or running, he did have a running TD nullified by a penalty however.
LeSean McCoy was lost for the game with an injury to his thumb that required surgery to repair, and Wide Receiver Robert Woods was also lost for the game with an injury as well. With Taylor, McCoy and Woods all ineffective, the Bills backup running backs chipped in to the tune of close to 180 yards on the ground most coming from Mike Gillislee with 72 yards. The Bills offensively were unable to put the game away, Tyrod Taylor missed several open throws, ones to Charles Clay and Percy Harvin that stood out above any.
Defensively the Bills did enough to win the game, however the offense will need to play better to have the game come down to the final play when the defense only give up 12 points. Marcell Dareus played for only the second time this season and was credited with a sack on the first play of the game. Rumors have come out of late the some in the Bills front office haven’t been pleased with Dareus conditioning and may be looking to part ways. Dareus must play consistently and effectively down the stretch to regain the trust of some executives in the front office.
The Bills are back on the field Sunday vs the 2-8 Jacksonville Jaguars, while the Jaguars have played poor this season they possess weapons that might hurt the Bills. Blake Bortles and WRs Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns might have an advantage on the Bills secondary who have struggled mightily in certain situations.
The Bills stand at 5-5 and are unable to drop another winnable game. It’s likely the Bills are only able to lose 1 game out of their next 6 in order to contend.
